Role Description
We are seeking a talented Packaging Art Director/Designer to join our dynamic team. The Packaging Art Director/Designer will work closely with the design and sales teams to develop innovative packaging solutions that meet business needs and enhance the overall customer experience. The Packaging Art Director/Designer will also have the opportunity to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to conceptualize and develop innovative packaging designs, from ideation to final production. Responsible to create new product concepts and mood boards that would set the direction of any/all current and new packaging, ensuring the landed development is both on time and on budget. Responsible for leading, directing and inspiring a group of packaging Designers that ranges from designers, to retouchers, photographers, to production artists. With a deep technical expertise in packaging, this role will also serve as the point person for packaging initiatives such as creation and maintenance of a standards library, and approval of all quality and color targets, to insure premium aesthetic and highest level of quality across all packaging designs. Experience in tooling unique shapes and complex printing processes is critical. This is a full-time on-site role, located in New York, NY.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field such as graphic design, industrial design, or packaging design preferred
- 10/12+ years of experience in graphic design/branding, preferably in Tech Accessories, Consumer Products, Hydration, Beauty, or Fashion.
- Expert knowledge in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
- Strong portfolio demonstrating experience in packaging design
- Experience in various packaging types, materials, and production methods
- Expertise in maintaining and designing across various consumer touch-points including social media, e- commerce, imagery, layout design, visual merchandising, product marketing/copy writing and packaging
- Modern and elevated aesthetic with a sharp eye for detail
- Must have a deep knowledge of complex printing processes, file building/execution, and production requirements
- Experience with project management and ability to work from customer specifications
- Expert leadership skills and capability to set goals, manage team and ensure key business goals are met
- Entrepreneurial and proactive mindset with the ability to be agile, adapting to fast changing business needs
- Ability to multi-task, manage time effectively, and work well under pressure
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines is a plus
- Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment
- Knowledge of Tech & beauty industry/competitive packaging, as well as other relevant categories.
- Collaborative – able to partner cross functionally and within the creative department
Responsibilities
- Lead conceptualization, development, and expansion of packaging solutions across a wide variety of products and brands based on customers' requests, while maintaining project deadlines
- Effectively communicate to packaging and branding team, fostering collaborative and creative environment
- Conduct market research to identify home trends, competitor strategies, and consumer preferences, incorporating findings into branding strategies
- Drive different brand identities, ensuring uniformity across all design elements, from packaging to marketing materials
- Create renderings of finished product looks and physical mock ups as needed
- Develop multiple iterations of standard design elements assigned to different products across each brand
- Produce high quality imagery through extensive photo retouching and manipulation applying it to product packaging and presentations
- Establish and maintain a packaging library to be a source of best-in-class materials/technical info, etc.
